Terms of Use

Effective date: May 2026  -  CogniSource

Plain language first: your data is yours, always. CogniSource is local-first and does not store your tasks, notes, projects, or KRI history in a CogniSource workspace database. Our KRI methodology, scoring formulas, and AI prompts are our intellectual property. Using CogniSource means you agree to these terms.

1. What CogniSource is

CogniSource is a personal workload intelligence tool. It calculates Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) from your task and project data, and provides optional AI-assisted features for workload analysis, communication, and planning.

CogniSource is provided as a web application accessible via web browser. By accessing or using CogniSource, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use.

2. Your data belongs to you

CogniSource is designed so that your workload data - tasks, notes, projects, milestones, and all personal content you create - is stored in storage you control: your local browser and, if you enable it, a backup file in a folder you choose. CogniSource does not store your personal workload data on its own servers.

  • We have no routine access to your tasks, notes, or projects.
  • You can export your data at any time via the built-in backup tool.
  • If you choose a backup folder, your backup file is stored in that folder. If the folder is synced by OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or another sync tool, that service handles the cloud copy.
  • If you use AI features, relevant data is transmitted to the configured AI provider for processing and is not intentionally retained by CogniSource after the request is complete.

You retain full ownership of all content you create within CogniSource.

3. Our intellectual property

The CogniSource KRI methodology, scoring formulas, computational logic, AI prompt designs, and the underlying research framework are proprietary intellectual property owned exclusively by CogniSource. They constitute trade secrets protected under applicable law.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • The six Key Risk Indicator (KRI) formulas and their calibration: SPOF Risk, Capacity Overrun, Dependency Debt, Context Switching, Burnout Velocity, and Recovery Buffer.
  • The weighting, scoring, and threshold methodology applied to each KRI.
  • The AI prompt templates and orchestration logic used for CogniSource's AI-assisted task extraction, document parsing, related-item review, summarisation, and communication support.
  • The research framework connecting peer-reviewed academic sources to the scoring model.
  • The CogniSource name, wordmark, logo, and brand identity.

You may not reverse-engineer, copy, reproduce, republish, disassemble, or distribute any part of the CogniSource methodology, formulas, or AI prompt designs, whether obtained through the application interface, browser source inspection, network traffic analysis, or any other means.

The application code, design, and content are protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

4. Acceptable use

You agree to use CogniSource only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms. You may not:

  • Use CogniSource to process data belonging to others without their consent.
  • Attempt to extract, copy, or reproduce proprietary formulas, prompts, or methodology.
  • Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security features of the application.
  • Use automated tools to scrape, copy, or mirror the application or its outputs.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute CogniSource or any part of it.
  • Use CogniSource in a way that violates any applicable law or regulation.

5. AI features and accuracy

AI-assisted features are provided for informational and productivity purposes. They may help extract tasks, parse documents, identify related items, summarise work, or draft communication. They are not professional medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice.

The KRI scores are calculated from your task data using research-grounded formulas. They are indicators, not diagnoses. If you are experiencing serious work-related stress or burnout, please seek qualified professional support.

CogniSource makes reasonable efforts to ensure AI outputs are grounded in your actual data. No AI system is infallible. You are responsible for reviewing and acting on any AI-generated content.

6. Availability and changes

CogniSource is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability and reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of CogniSource after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CogniSource and its owner shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the application, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or decisions made based on KRI scores or AI-generated content.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

8. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved under applicable law by the competent courts determined by that law.
