Projects and tasks
Areas
Areas group your tasks and projects by work category, team, or life context. They are containers, not tasks. Each task or project belongs to one area. Areas can be set to private to hide them when your private view is off.

AI settings - Anthropic API key
Required for AI features (Related items, SOW Intelligence, Extract Tasks from Note, and Manager Tools). Get your key at console.anthropic.com -> API Keys. The key is stored in this browser. When you run an AI action, only the relevant workspace context for that action is sent to Anthropic.

Backup folder
Choose a local folder for CogniSource backups. If that folder is already synced by OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or another tool, that service handles the cloud copy. CogniSource only reads and writes its own backup file in the folder you choose. Folder auto-save needs browser folder access; Edge and Chrome support it, while Firefox uses manual backup files.
No backup folder selected
Auto-save to backup folder
After workspace changes, save a protected backup file automatically when this browser supports folder access. Firefox can still use manual download and load.
Calendar sync
Connect Microsoft only for Outlook calendar read access. Some organizations require admin approval before users can grant this permission. If approval is blocked, CogniSource still works with manual meeting logging.
Not connected
Outlook calendar sync
Uses Calendars.Read only. CogniSource does not create, edit, or delete calendar events.
Data backup & restore
Your data is yours, it never touches our servers. Your workspace stays in this browser on this device. CogniSource only loads the app; it does not store your workspace. When using AI features, only the relevant workspace context for that action is sent for processing under standard API data policies. To protect your data, download a backup file regularly and save it somewhere safe.
Export
Export full backup (JSON)
Save this file to OneDrive, iCloud, Google Drive, USB, or another safe location.
Import / restore
Restore from backup
Load a previously exported .json backup file - replaces all current data.
Merge import (add to existing)
Import a JSON batch file and add to current data without deleting anything
Portable exports
Export tasks to CSV
Open in Excel, Sheets or any spreadsheet tool
Export notes to Markdown
Open in Obsidian, Notion, or any Markdown editor
Clear all data
Permanently deletes all tasks, notes, projects, and interruptions
Recommended backup routine
1. Use backup folder auto-save where your browser and company policy allow local folder access. Use manual backup files in Firefox or locked-down work browsers.
2. Once a week: click "Download backup" and save the .json file somewhere safe.
3. If you switch browser, change computer, or reinstall: restore from your latest .json backup.
